Irene joined HNK in 2022 and has decades of experience as a legal assistant working with small and large law firms. After her first year at HNK she was promoted to legal assistant in 2023 and to paralegal in 2024. She assists one of our legal teams preparing and producing applications, collecting evidence, and keeping close contact with the clients; she likes to empathize with clients by listening to their concerns, and trying to find best ways to serve them bringing a blend of hard and soft skills to her role. While a trained and licensed Colombia lawyer, Irene has spent most of her professional career as a legal assistant in the United States supporting attorneys in U.S. law firms with the administrative aspects of their practices and case management.
After marrying a U.S. citizen, Irene went through the legal process of becoming a U.S. legal permanent resident and later naturalized and lived in the United States for over 22 years.
Irene first went to bilingual secretarial school in Colombia, South America and worked as a bilingual administrative assistant for a U.S. lawyer specializing in civil rights matters, in his office located in South America. She later moved to the United Sates and worked for a small criminal and personal injury law firm in Maryland before moving to a large international law firm in DC where she worked for over 10 years supporting different practices, including public finance, employment, trademark, privacy, telecommunications, health, and litigation. Irene then returned to Colombia and started a freelance virtual assistant business and served as customer service support for a bilingual school with offices in South America, an airport wayfinding business in Georgia, and a law firm in Texas before relocating again in the United States.
