Zachary Abraham Kohn is a senior partner at HNK with over a decade of experience as an immigration attorney. He has substantial capability with removal defense litigation, family-based immigration, and appellate practice. He successfully represented hundreds of individuals seeking asylum, adjustment of status, cancellation of removal, naturalization, inadmissibility waivers, and humanitarian benefits.

Attorney Kohn empathizes with individuals who properly file immigration benefits applications but still suffer from unreasonable delays in the adjudication of their cases. Through federal litigation and negotiation, he helps many deserving clients receive long-awaited decisions from USCIS.

Additionally, he helps academic researchers, scientists, athletes, religious workers, G-4 international workers, and medical professionals in securing employment-based visas. A skilled writer and former journalist, Attorney Kohn enjoys crafting winning arguments for self-petitioners seeking permanent residence through EB-1A and EB-2 National Interest Waivers.

Protecting civil liberties and preserving due process of law are among the most critical privileges and responsibilities of an attorney. As a result of mass detention of noncitizens by the Trump administration, a significant portion of Attorney Kohn’s practice is devoted to habeas corpus petitions for noncitizens detained in ICE custody. Attorney Kohn’s most important and gratifying work is reunifying families whose loved ones were detained by ICE.

Prior to joining the firm, Attorney Kohn gained valuable experience at two boutique immigration law firms based in Maryland. As the son of a Colombian immigrant, his personal connection to immigration and fluency in Spanish allow him to better serve his clients.
