Alexis Turner-Lafving
Alexis’ versatility as an attorney allows her to effectively represent clients in a broad spectrum of immigration matters. Since 2018, Alexis served in various capacities and settings in immigration law, providing her with comprehensive foundational knowledge in the field. Currently, she focuses her practice on business immigration and litigation.
Prior to joining Haynes Novick Kohn Immigration, Alexis worked as an attorney advisor at the Sterling Immigration Court through the DOJ Honors Program. In that role, she honed her legal writing and research skills through assisting immigration judges with drafting judicial opinions. The position also afforded her valuable insights into the decision-making process of the court’s judges.
As a law clerk at an Am 200 law firm, she gained experience working on a variety of non-immigrant visas, including E’s, L’s, H-1B’s, TNs and O-1A’s, for individuals of extraordinary ability in the arts, sciences, athletics, and business. Prior to attending law school, Alexis spent two years working as a paralegal at a boutique law firm in Charlotte, gaining valuable experience on employment-based immigrant visa petitions.
Through the Immigration Clinic and Federal Appellate Immigration Clinic at the Chacón Center for Immigrant Justice at the University of Maryland Carey School of Law, under supervision as a student attorney, Alexis represented individuals before the Arlington Asylum Office, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
